The North Face of Annapurna South (also known as Annapurna Dakshin) was first climbed by a Japanese team in 1964. In 1988, an Italian crew tried Annapurna Dakshin. At 4000 metres, the south face base camp is located, and the advance base camp is located on the west bank of the glacier between Annapurna South and Mount Himchuli.
